After launching our Q Processing earlier this year, Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) is pleased to see our students already reaping huge rewards. Gabriel Nunes, a specialty coffee producer in Fazenda Bom Jardim, in Patrocínio (MG), won the Pulped naturals category, scoring a world record auction price at R$55,5 mil / US$17,5000 (US$131/lb). (Photo above is Mr. Nunes at CQI's Q Processing Course in Brazil earlier this year).
While Mr. Nunes is no novice to growing coffee, he attended CQI's Q Processing Course, Level 2, where he gained valuable insight into processing that positively impacted his award-winning crop. He expands, "I took a processing course by CQI and I will also take CQI’s Q Grader course at Brazil Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA), to become ready and get the foundations I need to seek excellence in every production process, while respecting all sustainability criteria. We applied that knowledge to the coffee batch that ranked first at Cup of Excellence this year, and now we pick more of this (auction record) fruit." He credits much of his success to the (BSCA) for its focus on professional development for coffee growers.
